About Rohan Bhattacharjee
I am a 2024 dual-degree Juris Doctor (JD) and Master of Public Administration (MPA) graduate of Syracuse University\'s Law and Maxwell Schools. Presently, I serve as Associate Staff Counsel to the Washington State Senate Committee Services\' for the Health and Long-Term Care Committee and the Local Government Committee. In this non-partisan role, I perform objective legal and policy research, draft legislations and amendments, author bill reports, and make presentations to Senators in live-telecast committee hearings. Previously, I worked in numerous roles requiring advanced research skillsets specializing in data privacy. These roles include serving as a law clerk at a full-service New York law firm, in-house in a Fortune 500 cybersecurity corporation, and as a legal extern for a Rochester-based healthcare non-profit. Additionally, I have been an intellectual property research associate at the New York State Science and Technology Law Center, where I helped startups, corporations, and universities commercialize their technologies, focusing my analysis on patentability, freedom to operate, licensing, regulatory compliance, and marketability issues. In my free time, I have been passionate about international criminal law. I have been a lead author for white papers published by a global NGO (led by former U.N. Undersecretary-General David Crane), focusing on Russia\'s crime of aggression against Ukraine. My research focused on piercing the veil of immunity of heads of state. One of those papers, co-authored alongside the former Legal Counsel of the U.N, and the former Minister of Justice of Canada, was published in the Jurist and has been cited by the E.U. Parliament in a December 2022 report. I am a licensed New York attorney. Additionally, I am a first-generation law graduate with an international background from India.
