Roger Sippl’s 37 years of contributions include Informix Software (CEO for 10 years, starting it in 1980 at the age of 24, and taking it public in 1986), The Vantive Corporation (a early leader in CRM, co-founder and Chairman, went public in 1995), and Visigenic Software (pioneered distributed object computing and the concept of the application server, founder and CEO, IPO in 1998).In the mid-nineties, Sippl became a founding partner of Sippl Macdonald Ventures. Investments included Illustra (acquired by Informix), Broadvision (IPO), Support.com (IPO) and Red Pepper (acquired by PeopleSoft). Other investments included Talarian, a messaging company (IPO, now part of Tibco), TimesTen, a main memory DBMS company (now part of Oracle) and Cloudscape, the first all-Java DBMS (acquired by Informix). Mr. Sippl has been on over twenty for-profit boards. Public boards include Informix (1980 to 1993), Vantive (1990 to 1998), Support.com to 2003), Interwoven (2007 to 2009), SolarWinds (2011 to 2016) and Imperva (2016 to present).Community work includes Chairman of the Stanford Cancer Council for over 20 years, as well as serving on three school boards.Roger Sippl studied Biology at the University of California at Irvine, and then Biochemistry, Immunology and Computer Science at the University of California at Berkeley, earning a BS degree in Computer Science in 1977. In 1995 Sippl was the recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Computer Science Department of the University of California at Berkeley, for his pioneering role in the relational database industry and the development of application development tools and fourth generation languages. Mr. Sippl is a “childhood” cancer survivor, having been successfully cured from an advanced Stage Hodgkin’s Lymphoma while a junior at UC Berkeley. Sippl was Chairman of the Stanford Cancer Council for 20 years, is also a pilot, PADI DiveMaster, boater, a published poet and father to three (at least).
