ABOUT ROGER COLLINS

As an experienced law enforcement professional, my career has been defined by a passion for public service and a commitment to reducing crime. With over a decade of service in the Louisville Metro Government, I have served as an active duty police sergeant, community engagement commander, Patrol Commander Lieutenant and adjunct professor of criminal justice. In my role as a Patrol Sergeant, I supervised a team of approximately 20 officers, creating and utilizing innovative crime prevention strategies to reduce crime in high-risk areas. I believe in leading by example, actively engaging with members of the community to build trust and legitimacy, and emphasizing the importance of effective communication as a critical component of modern policing. As the Community Engagement Commander, I supervised and mentored other officers in their efforts to bridge the communication gap between law enforcement agencies and those whom they are sworn to protect. My success in this role was driven by my penchant for active listening, open communication, and clearly defined expectations of our officers. As an Adjunct Professor of Criminal Justice, I leverage my years of experience to teach new generations of law enforcement professionals. My approach emphasizes the practical application of criminal justice theory to real-world job scenarios, focusing on effective communication, critical thinking, and the skills necessary to develop innovative crime reduction strategies and build strong, healthy communities. Overall, my driving motivation is to help make our communities safer and more just for all of us. Whether I am training future criminal justice professionals or working closely with community members and fellow law enforcement officers, I believe in the power of teamwork, communication, and mutual respect to create real change and forge strong, positive relationships within our communities.
