Under the guidance of Dr. Lauren Sallan and Dr. Chloe Nash, contributing to a project utilizing geometric morphometrics and related R programming to analyze and compare the physiological forms of various reef fish species. In the early phases of this study, members of the lab conducted GoPro surveys of fish assemblages around mounding coral, plating coral, rock rubble and sandflat habitats in nearby areas on Okinawa’s coast. After analyzing the fish species present in each habitat, I am working to determine differences in body shape between species that may be in part driven by differences in coastal habitat type, diet, evolutionary history, etc. Also assisting in reef fish identification and acting as a Japanese-English interpreter for other members of the lab.
