ABOUT ROGER CURTIS
A Chartered Building Surveyor with extensive experience in the management and policy of the traditionally built and historic environment, complimented by recent military work. Comfortable in political and policy environments, supported by practical hands on experience with a range of materials on a variety of sites. Currently managing a team of 14 professional staff in the provision of construction consultancy to Historic Scotland properties, covering services in civil & structural engineering, mechanical & electrical engineering, ecology, landscapes, quantity surveying and compliance. In addition I give technical advice to the HES CEO and Board. Experience in 2024 as interim Director of Operations managing the maintenance and visitor services with over staff in 300 locations. My technical expertise covers all aspects of traditional skills and materials to deliver sustainable repairs and retrofit to buildings of all periods and conditions. I have worked with charities in construction and with Scottish Government on wider issues affecting the built environment including training, materials supply chain and sustainability. I represent HES nationally and internationally and maintain regular technical dialogues with Historic England and other conservation bodies in Scotland and elsewhere.
