About Manuel Rodriguez Betancourt
I began my journey in the United States as a teenager. I arrived with two suitcases,$1,500, limited English, and a strong desire to build a better future. Every challenge became an opportunity to grow. I worked hard, learned the language, and eventually earned my United States citizenship. Those early years shaped my discipline, resilience, and long term commitment to personal and professional growth.Today, I am a double major student in Computer Science and Finance, with a strong interest in valuation, investment analysis, and financial modeling. I am also pursuing a minor in Physics and statistics, which has strengthened my analytical thinking and comfort with complex problems. I enjoy combining technical and financial skills to understand how businesses create value and allocate capital. At Gilar Group, I support the fund management team by analyzing companies, studying market trends, and building three-statement financial models for acquisitions and development projects. My work includes DCF and LBO modeling, Excel scenario analysis, and regression and time series analysis in R. I use these tools to support investment decisions and portfolio strategy. While attending school, my brother and I opened and operated a small grocery store in Queens. While balancing academics with running the business, I routinely worked more than 100 hours per week, managing daily operations, pricing, inventory, and customer needs. By closely tracking customer behavior and demand patterns, I improved pricing, inventory systems, and schoolwork, helping us more than double our sales within one year. That experience taught me how to manage time under pressure and make practical, results-driven decisions.During my studies, I completed projects analyzing Delta Air Lines and Bitcoin as a digital currency. The Delta project focused on partnerships, risk management, and long-term financial stability, while the Bitcoin project examined volatility, adoption, and its impact on modern financial systems. These projects strengthened my ability to evaluate both established companies and emerging financial technologies. My long term goal is to build a career in investment banking, private equity, or hedge funds. I enjoy solving complex problems, working through financial models, and contributing to decisions that shape companies and markets. I am motivated by demanding environments and committed to continuous learning as I grow into a strong and reliable finance professional.
