Professional Civil Engineer, Project Manager with studies in Sustainable Development with over 12 years of experience. Currently pursuing the PE License in New York. Work experience Internationally in NYC- USA, Toronto - Canada, Kenya, DRC, Cameroon and Nicaragua. Currently working in New York for DDCNY projects at JED Engineering & Land Surveying, P.C.Throughout her career, she has been working in the Mixed- use urban planning design, Affordable housing developments, Residential design, Management of housing Co-operatives and Social enterprises in Canada and Internationally. Worked with the private and non-profit sector in Nicaragua, implementing water systems and infrastructure projects for community development in rural areas.The experience gained in urban planning and affordable housing sector allowed her to work in the Management of Non-profit Development Companies specifically in affordable housing developments for newcomers, low-income families, seniors and First Nation communities in Canada. Gema strongly believes that volunteer contributions in our communities create significant impacts in the development of our nations, in that sense, she combines her professional skill, knowledge and energies to work with Non-profits organization in Canada along side her full time Job.

Currently working for the department of Design and Construction DDC in a complex, non-standard Pedestrian Ramp reconstruction project in New York, particularly in two boroughs Bronx and Manhattan to comply with federal ADA standards. This project address unique site conditions, requiring custom engineering, such as utility relocation, drainage adjustment, water main, manage of underground utility conflicts - in Join bits items with ConEdison, Verizon, Altice etc for pipe lines relocations, and specialized design for for tight spaces. on the surface work it required addition of return curbs and/or curb modifications, sidewalk regrading and relocation of street infrastructure (light pole, traffic signals and drainage). The project works in coordination with the New York City department of transportation DOT.
