WORK HISTORY
Research Economist @Bancodeméxico
Mexico City, MX
I am a research economist at the Macroeconomics Analysis Division of the Central Bank of Mexico. I do economic research and also policy analysis. The research projects I am working on are the following:* I developed two house price indexes for Mexico using millions of observations on house characteristics and prices from appraisals and developers\' data. I update these indexes every quarter and relate them to macroeconomic variables.* A comprehensive set of facts about labor income in Mexico. Using Social Security and Tax Records data, Alex Rivadeneira and I computed the level, distribution, life cycle, and dynamics of labor income in Mexico.* We study the behavior of formal firms during the Covid-19 pandemic in Mexico. First, we document job creation, job destruction, firm exit, and firm entry using data from Social Security records. Second, we measure the effect of credit on firms using an identification strategy that exploits the heterogeneous exposure of banks (and hence of its clients) to the Covid-19 shock.* I have two research papers that study the dynamics of wealth distribution in the USA using quantitive heterogeneous agent models. On the policy side, this is a non-exhaustive list of the topics I have worked on:* The potential public finance effects of the reform to the electricity sector proposed in 2021, the distributional consequences of the 2021 reform to the pension system, the possible consequences of using International Reserves to finance public expenditures, a comparison between the electricity and gas markets in Mexico and the European Union.
