   The NC Rural Economic Development Center (NCRC) has undertaken the management of the Treasury Department’s Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI), which was reauthorized under the congressionally approved American Rescue Plan of 2021. North Carolina has received $201.9 million for the initiative, which the NC Rural manages through a contract with the NC Department of Commerce. The reauthorization of the SSBCI program provides an important opportunity to build upon NC Rural Center’s past SSBCI program success addressing the needs of small business owners and entrepreneurs – with an important emphasis on catalyzing growth through the expansion of access to investment opportunities for socioeconomically disadvantaged individual (“SEDI”) business owners who may not typically have access to capital. The Fund of Fund Program (FoF) is one of several program components and is designed to support early-stage high-growth startups in North Carolina, primarily through equity investments.
