About Robinson Mohanraj
I am a neuroscience postgraduate candidate at NIMHANS, driven by an intellectual curiosity to understand how neuronal circuits and molecular mechanisms shape different behaviours. I hold a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science with 9.00 GPA, during which I completed my dissertation in virology, an experience that profoundly shaped my interest in infectious diseases and motivated my current focus on rabies. The severity of the rabies, a fatal neurotrophic infection and the limited therapeutic options have inspired me to explore how neuroscience can contribute to advancing treatment and intervention strategies.Alongside my primary research interests, I remain keen to explore behavioural phenomena such as sleep, emotion, and defensive responses, particularly how these states manifest across species. My book on how different animals sleep reflects my enthusiasm for engaging with diverse questions within neuroscience.Beyond research, I am deeply committed to mental health advocacy. My leadership experiences in remote collaborations with international organisations inspired me to found EfferVnteers, an initiative dedicated to preventing child sexual abuse and addressing its lasting impact on mental health. This work reinforced my belief that mental health must be prioritised, which led me to become a VBYLD 2026 Fellow and present ideas on making mental healthcare accessible across India to the Prime Minister and Union Ministers.In my leisure time, I enjoy singing, listening to music, drawing and painting, writing poetry, and blogging.
