About Robin L. Schelling
I’ve spent my career working at the intersection of mental health, occupational safety, and human performance—because safe workplaces don’t exist without psychologically healthy people.I’m a dual-discipline professional with more than 26 years of experience spanning global energy operations, regulatory compliance, and clinical mental health care. For 17 years at Chevron Corporation, I worked across substance prevention, DOT compliance, incident investigation, emergency management, human resources, and safety leadership—while also mentoring and developing HSE professionals worldwide. Today, I own and operate a private mental health practice a safety and compliance consulting firm, and contract with other firms allowing me to integrate clinical care with real-world safety, expertise, compliance, and organizational systems. As a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and DOT compliance expert, I’ve designed and led global substance prevention programs, supported complex incident investigations, and contributed to national certification standards as a BCSP panel expert. My work has always focused on more than rules and policies—it’s about understanding human behavior, stress, impairment, and decision-making in safety-sensitive environments.I’m also a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Texas and Florida and a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC). In my clinical practice, I specialize in addiction and burnout helping individuals navigate high-stakes careers while restoring health, accountability, and dignity.Through SAP Safety & Consulting Services, PLLC, I partner with organizations to align compliance, DOT SAP evaluations, safety culture, and well-being—bridging the gap between policy and people, and between physical safety and mental health.I’m actively involved in SAPAA, AMHCA, ACA, NAADAC, ISSUP, IFDAT, and EWDTS, and I regularly speak at national and international conferences on behavioral safety, substance use, and mental health in safety-sensitive industries. At the core of my work is a simple belief:You can’t separate mental health from safety—and when you address both, people and organizations thrive.
