Motéma Music is a GRAMMY-winning, art-first record label specializing in unique and culturally trenchant jazz, world, soul and other creative music. Producer, performer and entrepreneur Jana Herzen is both founder and president of Motéma, which began modestly in San Francisco as an outlet for Herzen’s own diverse musical expression as a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. In 2003, Herzen teamed up with music industry veterans to launch the fledgling label, which soon gained international acclaim. Operating now out of Harlem’s burgeoning cultural scene, Herzen and her team keep a close eye on current musical trends and have launched the very successful debut recordings of Gregory Porter, Joey Alexander, Pedrito Martinez and Jaimeo Brown, among others. The label\'s diverse roster spans genres, cultures and generations with acclaimed recordings by artists from 11 to 85 including work by NEA Jazz Master Randy Weston, piano innovator Geri Allen, Latin Jazz innovator Arturo O\'Farrill and NEA Jazzmasters Jack DeJohnnette & John Scofield in their world renowned project HUDSON. Under Herzen\'s stewardship, with close assistance from industry veterans Robin Tomchin (RT Productions) and Fanny Delsol (formerly of EMI/Blue Note France), Motéma’s artists now perform regularly at prestigious venues around the world, have earned 20 GRAMMY nominations and 5 GRAMMY wins and are regularly profiled in top jazz and mainstream media outlets.
