At Thomas More University, this is about is about using our collective strengths of relationship management, strategy, emotional intelligence, and achievement to connect with students and alumni to help them prepare for their next steps after graduation or later in their career. I use my particular strengths of relationship management, emotional intelligence, and execution to build relationships and partnerships with employers and other community partners toward the achievement of common goals. This a part of my job that I thoroughly enjoy. Where I am strong, I share my expertise. Where I am weak, I hire team members that are strong. Instead of annual evaluations, we regularly talk about their roles, growth goals, happiness, and reasons that would encourage them to stay and reach those goals at Thomas More University. This engagement allows us to plan and execute projects, pivoting quickly where needed. We support each other through difficulties and celebrate our wins. During my time at Thomas More, we have actively marketed our career services to students, staff, and faculty, increasing the visibility of our office resulting in a 40+% increase in student engagement. This was the result of building relationships with faculty, coaches, and other campus leaders, collaborating with other university offices, and using print and social media with great effectiveness. It was also the result of hiring good people and getting out of their way so they can do their jobs. I manage an operation unit by building and growing effective relationships with a team.
