In my role on the Data and Information Systems team, I design, manage, and evaluate large, complex bioinformatics projects that focus on human subject health research data through the Veterans Affairs (VA) hospital. I use a variety of tools and coding languages, including SQL, Access, SAS, and Visual Studio, to develop and manage bioinformatics applications. My responsibilities include designing, automating, and managing the flow of data ( from data collection, to data storage, and preparing it for analysis), performing analyses, and creating reports for funders and stakeholders. I work closely on privacy and data security plans, assess technical feasibility, and manage data availability to ensure successful project kick-offs. Additionally, I handle data requests, data use agreements, and other data management tasks. I support data analysis by providing necessary documentation and stats, create dynamic reports, assist with natural language processing, and design clinical dashboards. On the admin side, I work with information security, privacy, and IT teams to ensure VA data and privacy standards are met. I also manage software licensing, support file storage, and help with new user training and troubleshooting computing issues.
