ABOUT ROBERTO FRANCESCANGELI
Before moving into industry in Schrödinger Inc, Roberto worked as a Postdoctoral research scientist at the Internet Real Time Lab (CS dept) of Columbia University, New York under the guidance of Prof. Henning Schulzrinne, recently inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame (http://internethalloffame.org/inductees/henning-schulzrinne).His research focused on the design and implementation of optimal service placement algorithms for in-network services. Optimal placement depends on client and content locations, type and number of services requested, and available resources (storage, computing, network). He also worked on extending a standardized IETF protocol (NSIS) in order to allow for efficient multi-target signaling exchange (epidemic) and the design of a new gossip-based protocol for topology and service discovery with fast convergence and low overhead.Roberto got his PhD degree in Information Engineering at the University of Perugia, Italy in February 2012 with the thesis:\"Advanced Signaling for Deploying In-Network Services\".Before starting his PhD, he worked with a scholarship on building and tuning advanced VoIP services using only open source technologies in the DIEI department of the University of Perugia strictly collaborating with an italian VoIP provider, InIT Srl.He got his M.Sc. degree in Computer Science and Telecommunication Engineering at the University of Perugia with the maximum grade (110/110 cum laude, GPA 3.9) on April 2008. The Master\'s Thesis on IP/MPLS over ASON/GMPLS networks was developed in the framework of the Erasmus european student Exchange Programme at the Vrije Universiteit of Brussel, in collaboration with the Erasmushogeschool Brussel, from September 2007 to April 2008.His research interests are: Future Internet and Next Generation Network service frameworks, optimal service placement techniques, advanced service architectures with relevant signaling, WiMAX IPTV, wireless telemetry, performance evaluation, and testing.Specialties: networking, signaling protocols, VoIP, Java, JavaEE, tuning, programmable routers, NGN, future internet, performance evaluation, SIP, MGCP, WiMAX, CCN, SCN, network services, network management
