About Robert Shields
I grew into a man thanks to the kind love and sacrifice of strangers. It is my honor to serve in paying that kindness forward. I do so in whatever capacity that allows me to do the most good I can, where I can, with what I have at hand.My education in Garbology and AA in Natural Resource Management, along with 10 years in Portland, Oregon working on education and business development prepared me to move to Alaska to be on the frontline of the rapidly changing climate. Here as an educator and community planner, I have developed plans that can help us leap forward and take our place as leaders of the fossil free world. With respect, the extraction industry that has brought us the world of today. Those same activities have created the challenges of the day. Just like burning whale oil for lights had its sunset we are seeing the sunset of the dinosaur economy. Once they realize coal is worth more as material for air and water filters and material for construction coal will sunset too.Nurturing the potential of each individual to shine is how I believe we collectively find our way to move steadily forward and ever upwards.
