Our team thrives on interdisciplinary collaboration, cultivating advancements in pain diagnosis, and treatment through public-private partnerships. With an American Board of Anesthesiology certification in both Anesthesiology, Pain Medicine, and Healthcare Administration and Leadership in Medicine (HALM) my work is dedicated to enhancing patient care quality and operational efficiency. As part of Wake Forest\'s faculty, I also contribute to the professional growth of our medical community, fostering an environment that supports faculty, staff and trainee development and practice. My commitment to the field is evident as we lead initiatives that address challenging conditions such as acute and chronic pain, spine diseases, and musculoskeletal disorders. The goal is not only to meet the highest medical standards but to set new benchmarks through our research and clinical trials.

Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist
Jul 2017 — Present · Greensboro/Winston-Salem, NC, US
Dr. Hurley was handpicked by the Dean and Health System President to spearhead a groundbreaking initiative at Wake Forest Baptist Health and the Wake Forest University School of Medicine: the creation of a comprehensive Pain Service Line, a pioneering venture for the Health System that weaves together research, education, and clinical leadership across all Wake Forest Baptist hospitals and outpatient facilities. Within a mere four years under his leadership, the program has seen remarkable growth, expanding from 3 to 6 specialized pain centers and increasing its faculty to more than 12 board-certified experts in both their primary specialties and Pain Medicine.Under Dr. Hurley\'s stewardship, the research arm of the program has flourished, with funding skyrocketing from to an impressive >$30 million from prestigious sources like the NIH and AHRQ. Educationally, he has reinvigorated the training landscape for pain medicine, transitioning the fellowship, residency, and internship programs back to the university setting from a local private practice. This move not only enhanced the educational framework but also cemented the Wake Forest University School of Medicine Comprehensive Pain Medicine fellowship\'s status as a preeminent program, especially noted for its leadership in neuromodulation under Dr. Williams since 2020.
