Experience
Senior Sustainability Scientist
Jan 2024 — Present · Seattle, WA, US
In my current role, I develop data-driven sustainability strategies for AWS leadership, conducting comprehensive analyses of both historical and future sustainability impacts across a global fleet of data centers. My work takes into account the evolution of data center operations, supply chain, design, and infrastructure. I contribute to the development of robust sustainability solutions and strategies, while providing clarity and structure in the face of ambiguity. In my initial role at AWS, I led the initiative to quantify the embodied carbon emissions of IT hardware in data centers, including electronic components (e.g, semiconductors), electrical components (e.g, power supply units), and mechanical components (e.g, chassis). This was achieved through a scalable modeling and analytical framework, requiring close collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders to develop data-driven methodologies for accurate and rigorous environmental impact assessments.Key Achievements: Provided AWS and Amazon leadership with detailed, data-driven insights to support the development of robust sustainability strategies across the cloud value chain. Led the data collection and methodology development for IT infrastructure sustainability assessments, offering enhanced insights into the environmental impact of the cloud value chain. Acted as a subject matter expert (SME) on IT hardware, driving corporate sustainability initiatives and influencing the environmental footprint of IT hardware in data centers. Fostered collaborative partnerships with stakeholders across various departments and organizations, advancing sustainable practices throughout the cloud value chain. Delivered scientifically sound, data-driven outcomes in environmental impact assessments and sustainability accounting.
