About Robert Thiele

Division Chief, Critical Care Anesthesiology at the University of Virginia. My clinical practice is focused on cardiac anesthesia and critical care, my research interests are in technology / biomedical engineering / advanced monitoring, and I also spent six years on the Board of Directors of the University Physicians Group. My career objectives are to- Provide rational, cost-effective, evidence-based, high quality care to cardiothoracic surgical patients in both the operating room and intensive care environments- Help healthcare investors identify and evaluate the most promising early stage healthcare companies addressing real problems faced by clinicians (i.e. where there is a clear market need)- Assist the anesthesiology community in its continued effort to improve long term outcomes in both the anesthesiology and critical care environments through the development of anesthesia and critical care technology (work funded by NIH, K-08••••••20, R-21••••••24)- Develop light-based technology to address hospital acquired infections that affect our sickest inpatients (surgical site infections and central line-associated bloodstream infections)- Improve patient safety through work with the Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation (Committee on Technology).
