About Robert Taylor

At X-energy, I am leading a world-class licensing team that is living the company values of daring to disrupt and doing today, what others do tomorrow. We are pioneering not just new technologies, but also novel licensing and regulatory approaches that streamline the NRC permitting and licensing process so they align with the safety profile of our advanced reactors. We embrace state-of-the-art approaches such as probabilistic risk assessment to demonstrate safety margins and defense-in-depth, leverage regional data for siting analyses, and focusing safety-related equipment procurements to only those structures, systems, and components absolutely necessary to protect public health and safety. Our approaches have lead to NRC approvals of nearly a dozen novel methodologies and analyses, accelerated acceptance reviews for our applications, a first-of-a-kind streamlined environmental assessment for a commercial nuclear power plant, and the shortest review schedule and lowest cost estimate for a construction permit application in 40 years. All of this is just the start. Over the coming years, we will implement even more novel approaches to achieve our goal of demonstrating that licensing doesn\'t have to be critical path to the rapid deployment of advanced reactorsAt NRC, I was responsible for leading the licensing of the next generation of small modular reactors (SMRs) and non-light water reactors. Implementing transformative approaches to enable the safe and timely deployment of new nuclear technologies, renewing the licenses of existing operating reactors, licensing new medical isotope facilities to provide nuclear medicine for the public health and overseeing the safe operation of the nation’s research and test reactors to support nuclear research and training the next generation of nuclear engineers.
