About Robert Stoner
I am a condensed matter physicist, entrepreneur and inventor, with broad executive experience in industry, academia, and philanthropy. My early career inventions were in the field of optical physics and precision metrology for the semiconductor and aerospace industries, but in recent years while at MIT I have been focused on energy and the environment. I advise small and large companies around the world, and through my work with The Kendall Square Project, I am involved with technology startups in the US, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. I spent several years during a break from my technology career in a variety of executive roles in the Clinton Foundation, and have long been committed to contributing to economic development and education in poor countries. In 1998, I and others formed the Global Commission to End Energy Poverty, which focused on electricity provision in Africa.
