Robert provides support throughout the SLS team to maintain and expand external relationships with current and potential clients and collaborators. He also serves as a technical resource regarding the application of code-based and analytical solutions to unique building designs and the use of innovative and novel construction assemblies and techniques. Applying his previous experience surrounding emerging issues, he works to identify new processes or procedures to assist developers, building owners, and members of the design team in streamlining their ability to comply with the dynamic changes in the codes and standards that deal with the built environment.His other roles include serving as an Adjunct Faculty Member at Worcester Polytechnic Institute where he teaches an undergraduate course on fire protection engineering. He is also the Chief Knowledge Officer for an SLS joint venture project, CodeComply.Ai, that uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to facilitate the design and plan review process to evaluate compliance with applicable building and fire code provisions. Robert joined the SLS staff in June 2020 after a rewarding career at NFPA where he most recently served as the Director of NFPA’s Built Environment Codes and Fire Protection Systems group. He is a graduate of the fire protection engineering program at the University of Maryland and is a registered professional engineer in the State of California.
