Rob is currently a Tax Managing Director and leads KPMG’s Portland State and Local Tax practice which is comprised of nearly 20 State and Local Tax professionals. He also leads KPMG\'s national property tax compliance practice, is a regional income/franchise tax lead and serves as KPMG’s official liaison with the Oregon and Montana Departments of Revenue. Rob analyzes state tax issues for corporations, partnerships and individuals across a wide variety of tax types and industries. His experience includes- Designing and evaluating state tax restructuring opportunities, including M&A due diligence and post-acquisition tax structuring- Assisting clients in securing income, franchise, sales/use and property tax refunds - he has managed a number of multi-state reverse sales/use tax audits and income/franchise tax refund engagements, helping clients secure millions in overpaid taxes- Evaluating potential income, franchise, sales/use, VAT and property tax exposure through review of clients\' in-state activities and working to favorably resolve outstanding exposure through states\' Voluntary Disclosure and Amnesty processes- Analyzing credits and incentives available to clients and helping to secure those credits, including various Oregon and California enterprise zone credits- Assisting clients with and directly handling state and managed tax audits, including income, franchise, sales/use, property and B&O taxes in various states- State and local tax research and analysis, including multistate research matrices and preparing ruling requests regarding state statutory interpretations and regulations- State tax provision and FIN 48 assistance- Preparing and reviewing multi-state income, franchise, sales/use, property and other tax returns, including amended returns as a result of IRS audit, and - National, regional and local speaking engagements.
