Having spent the last 20 years in scouting, inventing, commercializing, and transferring innovative technologies, numerous lessons have been learned. The oil and gas industry is notorious for the challenges associated with introducing new technologies and I have a proven track record of identifying a path to implementation of breakthrough technologies. Currently Greyhorse Engineering and Technology LLC has partnered with Schubarth Inc. on one such game changing technique, Terranaut. It is a reservoir engineering based/economic focused solution for optimizing completion design economics. Terranaut was developed to optimize the economics of multistage fractured horizontal wells by evaluating the trade-offs of completion costs vs production/ultimate recovery. It is based on an analytical solution that is validated with offset/adjacent production and then forecasts future production for various alternative combinations of frac length and number of stages. By linking the cost of each combination, economics can be run and presented on a graph with an NPV/ROI heat map. With the economics of all the combinations presented, an operator can then target the best outcome that corresponds to any specific logistical and operational restraints. Results to date have yielded on average a 9% savings in the total well costs and a 45% increase in NPV’s.
