About Robert Hanshew

Researches, writes, edits, and produces scripts for videos and photographic presentations for the National Museum of the U.S. Navy. Since 2012, over 520 potential photograph exhibits have been written and edited for in accordance with American Association of Museum (AAM) guidelines. Has found, captioned, photo-processed, and archived over historically rich images to be used in exhibits for the future National Museum of the U.S. Navy’s location encompassing over square feet. The images can also be viewed as a “work in progress” on the NMUSN Flickr: Created for staff and intern use, the site has been viewed over 18.5 million times since October 2014 and has been used by a world-wide range of international, collections, archives, international and national websites, and by countless educational programs, notably the D.C. Public School system. Most recently, my expertise was relied upon by ex-Secretary of the Navy John Lehman for his publication Oceans Ventured, published in June 2018. In addition to that I have assisted the noted naval historian Dr. Craig Symons for his new publication, World War II at Sea, published in May 2018. I am acknowledged in both publications. Found suitable replacement imagery of 262 artifacts removed for conservation from the museum in 2015. Other staff couldn’t complete the task in four years, but I completed it within a month, June-July 2018 due to my experience and resourcefulness. Created a visual-art exhibit section on the museum’s official military website used a “guiding block” for graphic designers and staff for the future museum’s location, so images use can be easily defined and located for an exhibit area. Since October 2016, I have loaded over 450 pages of historic material, along with over 4,500 images.
