About Robert Hamilton

Throughout my career, I’ve always been passionate about people, systems and workflow. From my military service and time with the US Marshalls to HR at Fred Hutchinson, I’ve planned and resourced, all with an eye on time management, making things efficient while not denying people of what they need most to get the job done. During my tenure with the military, I wanted to show that, despite the stereotype of inefficiency, the government – like business – can run well; in fact, very well. For example, as Operations Officer for the US Army, Washington National Guard, I was tasked with planning, resourcing and training supervision for a 350-person, 75 vehicle organization, travelling between 8 different installations throughout Washington. My organization was the most successful unit at training and transitioning to new platforms. I owe the success of this initiative to identifying and cultivating the very best in every person individually. Then, working diligently to ensure their fit with the team as a whole. My work at Fred Hutchinson was focused on process improvement. This involved making changes and watching the process work better as a result of that change. Although time management was a key focal point, I spent much of my time on interpersonal relations so as not to miss out on each person’s unique contributions. By doing this, I was able to identify where resources were best used. Success is achieving your goal and avoiding breakdown. You have a mission in your organization. Are you fulfilling that in a quality fashion? Is time being used effectively? Do you, as team leaders, recognize when your staff is presenting you with good solutions and adopt them?
