The CAA is the UK\'s independent aviation and space regulator.I am a safety and technical leader responsible for providing key safety and mission critical capabilities and expertise to enable effective regulation of the space sector. Safety Case- Led the safety case assessment for the first UK launch licence application under the UK’s new legislative regime- Led the creation of scaleable, proportionate and comprehensive assessment criteria used to assess safety cases for launch operator and spaceport applications- Defined assessment and monitoring processes and procedures used across the Space Regulation Team, including safety case assessment, peer review, safety assurance and corporate business- Regularly provide expert advice to senior leaders (up to Board level) and make key technical and regulatory decisions (e.g. to issue licences, to take enforcement action, etc)Leadership & Management- Set up a new high-performance team responsible for providing space analysis capabilities to the CAA (including performing research tasks, using and developing bespoke software tools for space safety analysis)- Manage the professional and career development of a highly skilled team of engineers and analysts from diverse fields. The key challenge has been developing competency in a new domain for the UK (launch vehicle safety) and regulatory craft.
