Robert Doty is a partner in the San Francisco Office of Cox, Castle & Nicholson LLP and a member of the firm’s environmental team and litigation department. Mr. Doty is a leading real estate redevelopment attorney and has worked on hundreds of contaminated sites including industrial plants, landfills, rail yards, bulk terminals, closed military facilities, timber mills, dry cleaners, commercial nurseries, schools, and service stations. His transactional clients are property owners, developers, financial institutions, government agencies, and manufacturers. They rely on him for due diligence review, acquisition/disposition negotiations, regulatory and entitlement approvals, and insurance and financial underwriting. Mr. Doty’s commercial banking background adds business perspective to his advice on these matters. In his litigation practice, Mr. Doty has successfully prosecuted more than $100 million of environmental cost recovery claims in federal and state courts, including bench and jury trials as well as appeals. He has successfully defended environmental tort claims, Clean Water Act citizen suits, contract claims, eminent domain matters, and disputes over the ongoing revisions to California’s Community Redevelopment Law.
