About Robert Decker

My Interest in becoming a pilot began at a young age. By the time I was evaluating college options after high school, flying had already solidified as the career path for me. Formal flight training confirmed that instinct quickly. Shortly after making this decision the industry shifted drastically after 9/11. Flying opportunities largely disappeared and a practical step away from the cockpit became necessary. I spent a few years in financial risk and compliance where I learned a lot about leadership and thoughtful decision-making. Aviation was never fully set aside during that period. Certifications were earned, skills stayed current, and the intention to return to a flying career remained clear. In my current position, I have spent more than 13 years flying for the same owners on a managed aircraft within a small, stable operation. The work has included both domestic and international flying and has required close coordination with crew, maintenance, and management. Day-to-day operations are built around preparation, clear communication, and sound decision-making in an environment where schedules, missions, and priorities change frequently.Today, my experience draws on years of experience across different operating environments and roles, with an emphasis on adaptability, teamwork, and sound judgment. International operations, ocean crossings, and varied missions requiring flexibility and steady communication, especially as plans evolve. Outside of flying, time is spent hiking national parks, woodworking, and supporting aviation education and environmental flying. Across every chapter, the focus has remained consistent: do the work well, communicate clearly, and take care of the people involved.
