I have represented plaintiffs and defendants in their most important business litigation and arbitration matters for over twenty-seven years. I am also the Chair of Quinn Emanuel’s nationally recognized Cannabis Litigation Practice Group. According to Chambers, my “dedication, strategic brilliance and advocacy skills make [me] an invaluable asset for clients.” Legal 500 describes me as a “go-to strategist for high-stakes business disputes and complex cannabis litigation.” I have successfully litigated a broad range of cases, including shareholder litigation, directors and officers litigation, derivative litigation, merger and acquisition litigation, private equity disputes, and trade secret litigation. Over the course of my career, I have obtained recoveries in excess of one billion dollars. I also have extensive experience representing clients in domestic arbitrations. I have served as lead counsel in arbitrations administered by JAMS, the American Arbitration Association, FINRA, the International Center for Dispute Resolution, the International Chamber of Commerce and other arbitral bodies. Some of my notable engagements include the following:Represented the founders and directors of a publicly-traded cannabis grower and retailer in two lawsuits in California state court and a related arbitration in which investors alleged that the directors breached their fiduciary duties.Represented two German nationals who were the driving force behind the creation and development of AOL Europe, a joint venture between media giant Bertelsmann AG and AOL, in an action against Bertelsmann and its former CEO. The jury awarded $295 million in damages and the case settled for $192 million. It was the seventh largest jury verdict in the nation that year.Obtained a pre-litigation settlement in excess of $40 million in a case involving the breach of representations and warranties in a purchase agreement.Obtained an exclusion order against Apple in an ITC Investigation brought by Samsung.
