About Rob Carr
I began my work in the digital accessibility space in 2009 and 2010 and I have extensive experience training and consulting public and private entities in accessibility topics ranging from creating accessible PowerPoint presentations to planning and implementing organizational digital accessibility programs. For 8.5 years, I led the digital accessibility efforts of Oklahoma ABLE Tech, Oklahoma’s Assistive Technology Act Program based at Oklahoma State University. There, I provided training and consultation to the Oklahoma Department of Libraries, almost thirty of the state’s public higher education institutions, and multiple state agencies. I oversaw and directly contributed to Oklahoma’s statewide Access for All initiative, which worked to remove access barriers of all kinds from job seekers in Oklahoma. I also had many opportunities to speak at local, regional, and national conferences and began Oklahoma’s digital accessibility conference, TechAccessOK, which continues as an annual event. In March 2022, I joined WebAIM, a non-profit web and digital accessibility training and services group based at the Institute for Disability Research, Policy, and Practice at Utah State University. I’ve used my prior experience to lead WebAIM’s training and consulting efforts aimed at helping organizations build sustainable organizational digital accessibility programs. I also train and consult on integrating accessibility into technology purchase and use decisions with an emphasis on using multiple techniques and tools to ensure that purchasing organizations address accessibility from the beginning. I work as part of WebAIM’s renowned evaluation team, performing highly technical accessibility evaluations on websites, web applications, and user experience design products. And I contribute to our technical web accessibility training for individual clients as well as those who participate in our regular online training sessions. As of October 1, 2024, I began to work with the National Center on Accessible Digital Educational Materials and Instruction, or NCADEMI. This technical assistance center works with state and local educational agencies to help them address accessibility in learning material and instructional practices. The center is funded by the Office of Special Education Programs in the Department of Education.
