ABOUT ROB WILSON

Since Jan 2017, Robert has been the Service Leader for the Systems Assurance team, responsible for managing the delivery and finances of the circa £3m annual P&L account consisting of 30 Engineers across all grades. Responsibilities are centred about 3 cornerstones;Pipeline – maintaining and enhancing the team’s line of work. Developing the relationship with existing customers and creating new connections & associated opportunities for growth. The principles of acceptable risk used on safety can equally be applied to other related disciplines such as security (including cybersecurity), operations, risk and environmental which provides opportunities for future expansion and industry diversification. More recent threats such as cyber threats, hacking and remote intervention provide a new level of challenges in order to reduce their impact.People – ensuring the development and wellbeing of the team. Actively developing positive employee relations by introducing a team structure, disseminating responsibilities and providing opportunities through interpersonal skills such as of effective communication, dialogue and coaching. Projects – ensuring correct resources, delivery and reporting is maintained as well as delivering technical work. Providing leadership, tactical planning and management for existing work and proposed bids. All commercial aspects of the departments’ operations are produced and reported in line with the directors’ and company’s fiscal targets and are updated within the internal financial management, accounting and forecasting system.Since taking on the role on 2017, Robert has more than doubled the size of the Safety Assurance team, along with a commensurate increase in the profitability and multiplier of the work. Areas of expertise and experience levels include:Team/department lead Project technical lead Contract negotiation & client interfacing PDRs, individual development and mentoring Resource planning and conducting interviews Resource allocation Presentations Sub-Contractor and client management & liaison Bids & Proposals Costings & Budgets Best practice sharing, incident reporting and lessons learned. In addition to increasing the conventional work revenue, Robert has also been instrumental in gaining a CSM Assessment Body (AsBo) Accreditation with the UK’s sole body - UKAS. This has provided the company an alternate source of revenue of work from the independent assessment of CSM work, as well as undertaking the work itself.
