About Rob Nelson
As a biologist I\'ve studied primarily two things - the Hawaiian shrimp goby complex and the white squirrel phenomenon. However, my main career contributions is field of science communication. I wrote my masters thesis on effective ways to get classroom students interested in science at large and continued to make over 400 science shorts for Pearson publishing. I think worked to teach science online via my Untamed Science website and via various online platforms. While I\'ve hosted over 30 shows on television as a biologist, my greatest joy is in working with fellow biologists to tell their stories online. I give presentations and workshops with science institutions to help them become more proficient at telling visual stories about their research. Consequently I\'ve written a book on the topic and created about 200 how-to tutorials on our \"Science Filmmaking Tips and Tricks\" youtube channel. My main skill as a storyteller is as a director/host, but I have worked extensively behind the camera, as an editor, and animator. These skills are most helpful in directing larger productions as I\'m able to work more realistically with talented crew.Specialties: Underwater Filmmaking, GoPro work, Drone Flyer, Shooting in Extreme environments including the rainforest, marine habitats and polar regions. As a sidenote I also compete with the US Men\'s Olympic Whitewater Kayak team. These skills aren\'t needed all that often in my line of work, but have definitely come in handy on a few river expeditions and anytime a kayak is used in marine environments.
