The Coal Authority works to protect the public and the environment in coal mining areas, managing the effects of past coal mining activity in order to promote public safety and safeguard the landscape, now and for future generations. The Coal Authority is a NDBP (non-departmental public body) sponsored by DECC (Department for Energy and Climate Change), generating Annual Turnover c£10m, receiving Grant-in-Aid c£35m and has Management and Operational headcount of 165.Strategic Management: • Influencing decision making by understanding business drivers and assisted in the development of strategy and the corporate plan.• Securing alternate sources of funding for expansion of environmental project programme. Financial & Management Reporting: • Annual Statutory Accounts prepared in accordance with IFRS and HMT requirements and completion of the published Annual Report and Accounts.• Rationalised monthly Management Accounts production delivering key messages to stakeholders.• Monitoring of key efficiency measures, value-for-money and cost saving initiatives.Financial Planning: • Improved budgeting and forecasting, including delivering a revised budget following a major re-organisation, managing resources within financial constraints.Corporate Governance: • Development of risk management and maintaining an effective control framework. • Co-ordination of Internal and External Audit.Financial Management: • Maintain effective cash management processes. • Business Case review and Post Implementation Reviews to ensure realisation of benefits. • Ensured compliance on all tax matters, incorporating VAT, Corporation Tax, PAYE, National Insurance Contributions, Income Tax, P11D’s, Dispensations, Annual settlements and Construction Industry Scheme.Team comprises 6 direct reports.
