Rob Cannon

About Rob Cannon

Rob Cannon is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Oceanography and was commissioned in 1990. He holds a Graduate Diploma in National Security Studies from the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, and a Master of Public Administration from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. His initial sea duty assignment was aboard USS John Rodgers (DD 983). He worked closely with South American navies during a circumnavigation of the continent, and also participated in numerous counter-narcotic operations, and in operations to support democracy in Haiti. Following his sea duty, he reported aboard the Chief of Naval Operations Staff at the Pentagon, Washington, DC. Affiliating with the Navy Reserve in 1997, he served in Mobile Inshore Undersea Warfare Unit 211, and as Officer-in-Charge of MIUWU Detachment Echo. Other staff assignments include tours with Fleet Forces Command, and Norfolk Naval Shipyard. His awards include the National Defense Service Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal, and the Sea-service Deployment Ribbon. Upon completion of six years active duty, Chief Cannon became a member of the Charlotte Fire Department with Recruit Class 50. He served with CFD for 22 years. He retired in 2018 with the rank of Battalion Chief. He continues to serve as an officer for the Town of Davidson Fire Department, and has worked for for Purple Heart Homes, a non-profit providing safe housing for disabled veterans. Rob has operated his own leadership development consultancy since 2003, and has helped hundreds of clients become better leaders. Rob also completed the Certified Financial Planner Certificate at the University of Georgia Terry School of Business.
