Recently transferred to the US office to grow the US business. Chinese branch of a UK-based global company. Expert China was struggling to establish itself, both internally as an organization, and to build a dependable reputation with partners and customers. Inheriting significant challenges, in a year I put the company on a much improved and sustainable footing, and then delivered further value.Rapidly diagnosed the firm’s problems as a lack of leadership, technology, commercial skills and properly managed relationships with its partners. I designed a strategy to address all these issues. Transformed failing project management, introducing proper governance and resolving engineering challenges.Led projects to successfully introduce annual and 12-week budget cycles, plus a more rigorous analysis and control of cash flow, giving the firm financial visibility and discipline.Stopped the sales team selling assignments at negative margins, turning a margin of -26% to +1% in one year.Prioritized staff morale and wellbeing, solving a retention crisis (cut from 9% to 3%).
