ABOUT R. MICK RUBIO

I am a California attorney with over a decade of experience in civil litigation and public law and a deep commitment to community service. I serve as a volunteer Temporary Judge (Judge Pro Tem) in Alameda County Superior Court, regularly volunteer with Legal Access Alameda’s Community Legal Access Saturday Program (CLASP), and proudly serve on the Board of Trustees at Moreau Catholic High School in Hayward, CA.Professionally, I am currently a Deputy City Attorney for the City of Hayward. In this role, I manage in-house litigation, supervise outside counsel, and provide legal counsel to the City’s IT and Human Resources departments. My work focuses on risk management, labor and employment matters, contract negotiation and drafting, and strategic problem-solving.My legal background includes broad experience in defense litigation, including professional liability (attorneys, real estate and tech professionals, economic consultants), personal injury, employment law, HOA disputes, construction defects, and business conflicts. I’m passionate about trial and appellate work, discovery and motion practice, and advancing litigation management through technology and data-driven tools.I am particularly interested in the intersection of law, technology, and policy, especially in areas like cybersecurity, e-discovery, AI regulation, and the evolving risks and responsibilities these present to public agencies.
