About Rahul Kalaskar

I have built solutions to a wide variety of distributed systems problems, both in eCommerce and Amazon Web services space. I was a founding member of the Amazon Redshift Service, working on all aspects of the service from the very beginning through service launch and exciting growth. This included extensive work on API design, control plane architecture, database monitoring and recovery systems, security and data ingestion systems. At Amazon S3, I managed a team of software engineers to delivered customer facing features such as S3 Event Notifications, Server Side Encryption with Amazon S3 Key Management (SSE-S3). I enjoy the challenges of building and operating mission critical distributed applications at scale, including both big data and high volume. This has lead me to my current focus working on scaling some of the core services in eCommerce Services Group that power Amazon. I am currently building a new team in AWS Elasticsearch services team in Bangalore,India. If working on deep distributed systems problems and contributing to open source excites you, contact me.
