About Rachel Johnson
I am a psychology major at Christian Brothers University (expected May 2027), passionate about faith-centered advocacy, mental health access, and fostering inclusive environments. I currently work as a nanny and home coordinator for a child with special needs, where I manage daily operations, provide educational and behavioral support, assist with grant writing, and connect families to nonprofit resources—experiences that have strengthened my organizational, communication, and systems-level advocacy skills. In addition to serving as President of the Psychology Club, a Teaching Assistant, Peer Mentor, and Social Media Director for the Honors Program, I actively promote student well-being and disability inclusion across campus. My background includes years of service with organizations such as Shepherds Haven, Madonna Learning Center, and Presbyterian Day School, as well as research in SPSS on autistic traits and collegiate well-being and qualitative work on faculty attitudes toward student mental health. With experience in leadership, research, and grant writing, I am committed to pursuing graduate studies in clinical social work or psychology and advancing equitable, accessible support systems for underserved populations.
Experience
Direct Support Professional
Jul 2025 — Present
As a Personal Assistant (PA) for individuals with disabilities, I have the privilege of supporting clients in building independent and fulfilling lives. My role involves assisting with daily care activities, providing transportation to and from social events, helping with meal prepping, and coaching on life and employment skills. I also work to foster social engagement and reduce isolation by encouraging community involvement and meaningful relationships. This role has strengthened my skills in adaptive communication, advocacy, patience, creativity, and problem-solving. It has taught me the value of seeing ability over limitation and the importance of fostering dignity and autonomy in every task. I am passionate about disability inclusion and look forward to continuing to advocate for supportive, accessible spaces where individuals of all abilities can thrive.
