ABOUT RIYA SIDHU
I’m a PhD candidate in Psychology at Western University, specializing in neuropsychology and music cognition. My research focuses on how people synchronize to external cues—from walking in step with a rhythm to feeling the urge to move to music—and how individual traits like dance experience or empathy shape those responses. I’ve led projects ranging from virtual reality gait studies to nostalgia’s influence on groove perception, often blending cognitive neuroscience with everyday human behavior. Along the way, I’ve led research collaborations, mentored students, published in peer-reviewed journals, and had work featured in public media. I care deeply about science communication, mentorship, and creating inclusive spaces in academia. I aim to make research feel accessible and human.
