ABOUT RITU PATEL
I’m passionate about agriculture and the science that drives it forward. Over the past year at The Little Potato Company, I’ve been leading variety trials and post-harvest research focused on yield, quality defects, pressure bruise, scab, and storage for advanced breeding lines. I also trained the HarvestEye device on creamer varieties, improving how we capture and analyze yield and size distribution data. Alongside fieldwork, I use tools like Genstat and Phenome to manage and analyze trial data, helping turn research into clear, actionable insights for growers, sales, and packing teams. My career builds on earlier experience in market research, data analysis, and agronomy through roles with Shreeji Corporation Ltd, the University of Guelph, and the Ontario Fruit & Vegetable Growers’ Association. With Masters degree in Environmental Science (University of Guelph), Agricultural Business Management (Fanshawe College), and a B.Sc. in Agriculture (Anand Agricultural University), I bring a strong mix of technical expertise and industry perspective. What excites me most is connecting practical fieldwork with data-driven research—seeing new varieties move from trials to commercialization and knowing the work supports both growers and consumers. I’m motivated to keep contributing to agricultural innovation, sustainability, and food security through variety and product development.
