ABOUT RITA MELIA
I have spent the last thirty years working in early childhood education and care in practice, research and policy. Starting my career as a nurse I was the \'go to\' person for childminding or advice. My journey has been exciting, it included lots of international travel, learning new things, receiving an Irish Research Council Scholarship to conduct my PhD research, being awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to Harvard Graduate School of Education under the sponsorship of Professor Howard Gardner and the supervision of Professor Ben Mardell. I worked with Early Childhood Ireland from 20••••18, I then took up the post of Early Years Specialist with Tusla- Child and Family Agency; Tusla Early Years Inspectorate. I have recently taken up a post with Galway Mayo Institute of Technology ( GMIT) as a Lecturer in early childhood education and care. GMIT has now become the Atlantic Technological University ( ATU) the largest multi campus University in Ireland covering Galway, Mayo, Sligo and Letterkenny. I am the Fulbright Ireland Alumni Ambassador for ATU and the Membership secretary for the Irish Fulbright Alumni Association. I am a mother of four adult children and a nanna to four wonderful boys and one grand daughter.
