About Rita McBarr
I am a scientist interested in host-pathogen interactions, cell biology, cellular immunology, and microbial genetics. I completed my Microbiology PhD at UC Berkeley in 2024 and am currently working as an interim Postdoc to wrap up some projects. I am looking for positions that will allow me to use the skills developed over the last decade of scientific research while also engaging with my passions of mentoring and project management. My current research focuses on uncovering new aspects of the host response to Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection. I have extensive experience with in vitro and in vivo infections, molecular biology, mammalian tissue culture, cloning, CRISPR gene editing, high-throughput fluorescence microscopy, ELISAs, BSL2 and BSL3 protocols, mentoring, and project management. Currently, I am broadening my skill set to include programming in R, flow cytometry, and analysis of large RNA-seq and mass spectrometry data sets.
