About Rishabh Abhinav
Elevating power systems with a passion for sustainable solutions With a career spanning cutting-edge research and transformative consultancy, I bring a wealth of experience to the fields of power systems and renewable energy. Currently serving as a Senior Power Systems Consultant at PSE 2 Consulting, Cardiff, UK, I focus on G99 Power System Studies, G5/5 Harmonic Voltage Assessment, Protection Coordination, and P28 Voltage Fluctuations Studies. My role involves diving deep into the nuances of grid compliance and fostering reliable and resilient power systems. Journey through Innovation and Research My career began as a Research Engineer at TwinGrid Labs, New Delhi, where I led the development of MVPs, leveraging cloud computing and IoT for digital twins in the power utilities sector. Before this, I was a Research Associate at the Power System & Smart Grid Lab, IIT Gandhinagar, contributing to the ECOWET project aimed at optimizing multi-energy systems for sustainable smart cities. Academic Prowess and Thought Leadership With a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from IIT Gandhinagar, my research focused on the intricate integration of large-scale wind power generation with Battery Energy Storage Systems. My journey also includes a Master\'s in Power Electronics & ASIC Design and a Bachelor\'s in Electrical & Electronics Engineering. Expertise and Skills My technical acumen encompasses a spectrum of simulation and optimization tools such as DIgSILENT PowerFactory, ETAP, MATLAB/Simulink, GAMS, and OPAL-RT. Proficient in Network Modelling, Load Flow Analysis, and Frequency Response, I bring comprehensive insights into Voltage Stability, Optimal Power Flow, and Renewable Energy Forecasting. With a command over Python, C, Java, and SQL, I have also delved into Machine Learning and Deep Learning techniques like CNN, RNN, and Gradient Boosting. Contributing to the Global Discourse My contributions to the field are reflected in my peer-reviewed publications and conference proceedings specializing in Wind Power Forecasting and Grid Integration. Additionally, my role as a reviewer for esteemed journals underscores my commitment to the field. Recognitions and Engagements Acknowledged with the PES Student Travel Support Grant and honoured with the Institute Additional Fellowship for Outstanding Academic Credentials, I have actively engaged with various workshops and training sessions, further solidifying my position as a thought leader in the industry.Let\'s connect and work together to shape a more sustainable energy future!
Experience
Senior Power Systems Consultant
Apr 2022 — Present · Bristol, GB
In my current role, I\'ve had the privilege of overseeing extensive projects and engaging with clients across the power generation and distribution industry. My role has been multi-faceted, encompassing team management, project delivery, and client consultation, with a particular focus on Grid Compliance Studies across the UK and other European Distribution Networks.Key Responsibilities-Project Management and Team Leadership: My role requires me to manage various projects efficiently, ensuring their successful execution and timely delivery. I have had the opportunity to lead and guide cross-functional teams, fostering a collaborative and results-oriented work environment-Grid Compliance Studies: My expertise is centred around ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations in the power industry. I have led and executed comprehensive Grid Compliance Studies for various power-generating modules. These studies encompass: •G99 Power System Studies: EREC G99 sets the requirements for power-generating modules connecting to the grid. The study includes reactive power capabilities, fault ride-through, frequency response, and voltage control. •G5/5 Stage 2 and Stage 3 Harmonic Voltage Assessment: This involves harmonic voltage assessment across the plant, ensuring compliance with G5/5 standards to mitigate any adverse impact on the grid. •P28 Voltage Fluctuations Studies: In-depth studies to evaluate and mitigate voltage fluctuations and flickers within the plant. •Protection Coordination: Designing and configuring protection devices (relays and circuit breakers), enabling rapid and selective isolation of faulty components within the power system. •Short-Circuit Studies: These include performing detailed short-circuit studies to assess the system\'s robustness during balanced and unbalanced fault conditions. •ENA G99 Connection Application: Preparation and submission of ENA G99 Connection Applications, ensuring our clients meet regulatory requirements.
