ABOUT RION SCHULZ
As a curious individual with a love of nature and problem solving, I have never doubted wanting to become an engineer. Growing up, I was always intrigued by how things work, driving me to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alberta. Throughout recent years, I’ve had the privilege to engage in groundbreaking projects regarding the energy transition, climate action, indigenous relations and community support. One of my most memorable experiences was travelling to Fort Chipewyan to do a site visit of the Three Nations Energy Solar Farm and engage with the community and their culture.For me, engineering is about using your creativity and knowledge to make a difference. My time committed towards the development of renewable energy, low carbon fuels and energy efficiency has solidified this belief, as I quantitatively and qualitatively see the outcome of my actions through environmental and community benefit. Additionally, engineering, to me, is a tool I can use to help support underrepresented, remote communities through providing reliable and sustainable energy solutions.When I’m not captivated by studies and work, you will find me engaging in soccer, hockey, weightlifting or any other form of physical activity. Otherwise, I am likely exploring nature through hiking, mountain biking or camping. I firmly believe that a variety of experiences and learnings from myself and others can contribute to stronger engineering solutions.I am always intrigued by new challenges and opportunities to learn.
