ABOUT RILEY SPENNINGSBY
I have been working in fitness facilities since 2012 where I first found my love for leadership, professional development, diversity and inclusion, and overall health and fitness at the University of Central Florida (UCF). Here, I held many roles that helped to prepare me to my future. I worked in the outdoor facilities monitoring and supervising outdoor activity space. From there, I was then provided a supervisor level position where I oversaw scheduling, hiring, training, and evaluation of team members. My final position in this facility was a Building Manager where I performed weekly facility inspections, handled conflict situations that occurred in the building, and demonstrated top quality customer service to all guests who utilized our facility. Throughout each of these positions I also had the opportunity to work with large scale events such as FC Barcelona youth camps and university club sporting tournaments. My career at UCF ended with being award the UCF Recreation and Wellness Center 2017 Employee of the Year.Following my time at UCF, I then transitioned to the University of Houston as a Graduate Assistant where I supervised a staff of about 75 student employees. I assisted the team with hiring promotional level positions as well as training them for their new role. Some of my main responsibilities in this role included recruiting, interviewing, hiring, on-boarding, scheduling, payroll oversight, budget projections, and semesterly performance reviews to all employees. Upon graduation I was named the University of Houston\'s Department of Student Affairs and Enrollment Services Graduate Assistant of the Year.In 2019 I took my career to Illinois State University as the Facilities Coordinator at the Student Fitness Center. I directly oversaw all Member Service staff, Facility Managers, and a Graduate Assistant. Being the main point of contact in this role I was able to help train and develop my employees and prepare them for their future careers, even when COVID-19 shut down the university. After my collegiate recreation career, I relocated to Minneapolis, MN where I worked for Anytime Fitness. During my tenure here I held various positions from a Franchise Manager, Club Support Specialist, Personal Trainer, and Community Manager. I enjoyed finding opportunities to build a positive culture and create communities across team members and clients. In my personal life I enjoy connecting with people, enjoying walks outside, discovering new restaurants, hanging out with my kitties, and watching live sporting events (specifically baseball!).
