Discovered 30 km west of Calgary near Cochrane, Alberta, the Jumping Pound gas field was once Canada’s largest. It was the first found through seismic mapping and the first to reclaim sulfur from sour gas. Shell struck gas there in late 1944 but delayed development due to war-related market limits and Alberta’s export restrictions. By 1951, Shell built a processing plant, and Canadian Western Natural Gas (now ATCO) connected it to Calgary. The plant became Canada’s leading sour gas research site. On October 17, 2019, Pieridae Energy acquired Shell Canada’s Foothills assets. On May 8, 2025 Pieridae Energy changed it\'s name to Cavvy Energy.
