ABOUT RICK OCULTO
Non-profit diversity specialist, public speaker, and educator with over 20 years of experience. Rick collaborates with educators and school administrators in California to implement inclusive curriculum and practices to create healthier climates for youth and families of diverse backgrounds. An accomplished speaker and presenter, Rick has conducted training for thousands of students, educators, youth workers, and families focusing on diversity and inclusion, harassment, gender stereotypes, race and ethnicity, intersectional identities, and LGBTQ+ issues. He educates on legal responsibilities and protections, methods of fostering welcoming environments, and provides templates for inclusive curriculum for both the classroom and at home. Formerly the Youth Service Coordinator at Billy DeFrank LGBT Center in San José, Rick developed programs that addressed LGBTQ+ youth issues and created the first transgender youth support group in the Bay Area. As a social worker, he worked on connecting elders and foster youth to resources in Santa Clara and Alameda counties. In his current role he has pushed for LGBTQ+ inclusion in history, social science, and health curriculum, advocated for families facing discrimination, and provided strategies and recommendations for more inclusive practices in different settings. Rick is a steadfast believer in the power of community and empathy and fosters opportunities for genuine connection in both his work and personal life. In his spare time, he coordinates volunteer events for SF Gaymers, a social group that recognizes diversity within the gaming community and creates safe spaces for LGBTQ+ individuals to game with one another. Rick lives and games in San Francisco and frequently visits his family in the South Bay.
