About Rick Wallace Kenyon

As the power systems simulation lead at encoord, I am focused on the development of simulation capabilities in our SAInt software that improve upon the deficits of contemporary power system simulation tools. This includes the ability to combine historically siloed processes such as temporally isolated PCM and ACPF studies, or granularity separated transmission and distribution analyses. Beyond the currently existing capabilities to couple the aforementioned simulations, my primary focus going forward is on the dynamical challenges associated with periods of high shares of inverter-based resources. As a recently defended Ph.D. student at the University of Colorado at Boulder, I studied power system dynamics and renewable energy. During this time, I was also a visiting researcher with the National Renewable Energy Lab in the Power Systems Engineering Center, working primarily with the Integrated Devices and Systems group. At CU Boulder and at NREL, I used multi-model analysis to help advance our understanding of future power systems with high levels of inverter-based renewable energy sources. My research focused primarily on the frequency dynamics of inverter dominated systems, in particular with the presence of novel control schemes with grid-forming inverters such as exponential droop control.
