Veteran Aerospace Leader | Avionics Innovator | Industry Advocate With over 35 years of experience in the aerospace industry, Rick Ochs has dedicated his career to advancing avionics technology and professional standards. He began his journey as an Avionics Technician in the U.S. Navy, serving as a Flight Deck Troubleshooter in Sea Control Squadron VS-28 aboard the USS Forrestal. Following his military service, Rick honed his skills as an Avionics Installer on USAF C-130H Hercules aircraft and business jets. In Rick founded Spirit Avionics, which has since evolved into Spirit Aeronautics, a leading provider of aircraft maintenance, modification, and engineering services. Under his leadership, the company has expanded to include FAA-certified Repair Stations in Columbus, Ohio, and Fort Worth, Texas, serving a diverse clientele that includes corporate, government, and military operators.Rick is a recognized thought leader in aerospace personnel development. He serves as the Chair of ASTM International’s F46 Aerospace Personnel Main Committee and Vice Chair of its F46.01 and F46.05 subcommittees, focusing on developing industry-derived academic knowledge standards for aircraft maintenance personnel. His work has been instrumental in establishing credentialing frameworks for avionics technicians and aerospace engineers.Beyond his technical expertise, Rick is deeply committed to fostering the next generation of aviation professionals. He has served as the Director of Development for the Youth Aviation Adventure program for over 20 years, promoting STEM education and aviation careers to youth across the United States.Rick holds multiple FAA certifications, including Airframe Mechanic, Radio Repairman, and is an instrument-rated private pilot. He is also certified as an Aircraft Electronics Technician by NCATT and holds an FCC General Radio Operator\'s License. His contributions to the industry have been recognized with awards such as the FAA\'s General Aviation Avionics Technician of the Year and the Aircraft Electronics Association\'s Person of the Year. Rick built one of the fastest cars in high school school during his time at Eastmoor HS in Columbus, Ohio. It was a 1972 Chevy Nova with a 1969 Z/28 302 engine, a Muncie Rocker Crusher 4 speed with a Borg & Beck 3 finger pressure plate and a 12 bolt posi. rear end with 4:56 gears. He still owns that 302 engine and is currently restoring a 1969 Camaro RS Z/28 to install it into.
